8In loving memory of Helen Calvert, wife of John Carnochan, who died at Culnaightrie, 6th Dec’r 1927, aged 72 years. 9Erected by Ametures of Auchencairn, to the memory of two unfortunate mariners, who bodies were found on Rascarol Shore, and interred in this place, on the 26th October 1863. Also of John Leachie, whose body was found on the same shore, and interred here on the 23rd June 1864. In oceans deepest darkest bed the secret slumbers with the dead.

23In memory of a soldier, Major General Victor Morven Fortune, K.B.E., C.B., D.S.O., late the Black Watch, of Bengairn, born 21st August 1883, died at Dalswinton, 2nd January 1949, from illness contracted during 5 years captivity in German prisoner of war camps, after being captured at St. Valery in 1940, while commanding the 51st (H) Division. Also his wife Eleanor, who died 6th January 1971, aged 83. None of us liveth to himself.

(Left) In glorious and most loving memory of Cyril Stuart Embrey, 2nd Lieut., South Staffordshire Regiment, killed in action in the Great War, 12th Oct. 1918, aged 20 years. He was awarded the Military Cross and was twice mentioned in dispatches for exceptional bravery in face of great difficulties. History records the exploits of his regiment. He engaged in battles which successfully broke through the Hindenburg Line, St. Quentin Canal etc. etc. and after having witnessed the final route of the German army he was killed by secreted machine gun. His body lies in the Bristol Cemetery of Fresnoy-le-Grand, France.
