Janet McBurnet, to whom he was a most affectionate husband, has caused this tomb to be erected to his memory.

In memory of Alexander Laurie Johnston, son of the above, who died at Bluehill, the 19th day of February 1850, aged 67 years. He was for upwards of twenty years a merchant at Singapore, in the East Indies, where he was universally beloved & respected.
